Australia, is one of the 82 members of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), which also includes 82 developing countries that participate totally free of charge through the IEC Affiliate Country Programme. Australia fully recognizes the value of participating in international standardization and conformity assessment for its economy and industries. Through this, small and big Australian companies are able to compete world wide and participate in global value chains. In October 2012, the IEC Australian National Committee, which is hosted by Standards Australia, celebrates its 90th anniversary.
