Hello my name is Tod Smith. I am a senior technician at CD & Power. Today we will be talking about how to safely inspect your generator.
The first thing to do is make sure there is a 36” clearance around the generator, take note of any debris, and be aware of any slip, trip, fall hazards.
One of the most important things to remember about working around any electrical circuit is the potential for an arc flash. An arc flash is a shorted out circuit. Only qualified personnel should be inside any electrical panel, wearing proper PPE (personal protective equipment). The ATS is a device that switches in between two different power sources. In this scenario it switches between PG&E, or the utility, and the backup generator. This device is never to be worked on by unauthorized personnel.
Never climb on your generator and beware of heavy doors. These are some of the safety items we need to be aware of.
