The electricity department has collaborated with e-commerce startup Paytm to simplify the bill payment process. The move comes in the wake of the department’s own online payment service scheme failing to cut down the long queues at billing counters across the city.
“We launched the facility a month back and there has been a steady rise in consumers paying through Paytm,” said Arvind Rajvedi, chief engineer distribution, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited PVVNL.
The Ghaziabad zone comprising parts of Noida, Hapur, Bulandsahar and Ghaziabad has close to 12,33,000 domestic power consumers, while Ghaziabad city alone has 3,68,000 domestic consumers. “We are expecting that at least the consumers within the city will opt for Paytm” said Rajvedi.
Consumers will have to download the app and tap on ‘pay your electricity bill’ option within the app. “Users can select UPPCL from the drop-down in the electricity bill category of the app.
After entering the account identification number, the user will get to know about the bill amount within the app. After which they can go ahead and make the payment, ” said Rajvedi.
“We already had online payment facility through about 35 banks and now we are further simplifying the process through the app,” said Rajvedi.
Some consumers are already availing the facility. A resident of Indirapuram, Rakesh Kanojia said, “Paying electricity bills used to be a punishment before as I had to wait in line for hours but Paytm option has made the process easier. ”
