IEC Launch – Speaker Panel Part 3: How Did You Recruit Top Talent?

Ivey Entrepreneurship Club held a speaker panel featuring 4 of London, Ontario’s most successful entrepreneurs (bios below) on Wednesday, September 25th from 5-7pm at Western University. The purpose of this event was to celebrate entrepreneurship in London and inspire students to launch their startups HERE and NOW!

David Ciccarelli (
Co-Founder of (
David Ciccarelli is the co-founder and CEO of London-based, an award-winning online marketplace that connects clients with voice-over talent. Launched in the early 2000s, recently celebrated their 9th anniversary! David is a Canadian pioneer in dot-com startups. He is a self-taught programmer, graduate of the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology and an alumnus of the Ivey Business School entrepreneurship program.

Albert Lai (
Co-Founder of Big Viking Games (
Albert Lai is a true serial entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of London-based Big Viking Games, a social and mobile games company with over 30M users – which has grown from 4 to 45+ people in less than 2 years. While in his teens, Albert sold his first Internet company for 7-figures. More recently, he went on to sell BubbleShare, photo-sharing app, to Disney in 2007. He later launched Kontagent, a mobile analytics platform, which has raised over M, backed by Facebook Fund, Altos Ventures, Maverick Capital and Battery Ventures. Despite all his success, he still finds time to take out the trash at Big Viking Games (his official role according to LinkedIn).

Jaafer Haidar (
Co-Founder of Carbyn ( – acquired by Synacor)
Jaafer Haidar started and sold 2 London-based startups: Carbyn, an HTML5 operating system acquired by Synacor, and then ScrapHD, a digital scrapbooking app acquired by Michael’s Stores Inc. He has gone on to start, invest and mentor many other companies through his roles at Communitech and CrunchFund. Jaafer holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Western University. Prior to startup life, Jaafer was an Executive at Accenture, where he helped Fortune 500 companies implement web and digital media strategies.

Diana Charabin (
Co-Founder of Cole & Parker (
Diana Charabin is part yogi / fashionista / creative soul and part angel investor / venture capitalist / entrepreneur. She is the founder of 2 London-based startups: Tiny Devotions, an international accessory manufacturer of mala beads, and more recently Cole & Parker, socks that start businesses! She holds a Law degree from Bond University in Australia and is an alumna of Ivey’s Executive Leadership Program.
