Voting stations around the country have opened for the last voters’ registration weekend. The IEC has put the total number of voting stations at 22-thousand. It has given the assurance that security had been strengthened following protests and reports of intimidation at voters’ registration stations last month. The IEC is still trying to update the voters’ roll and has sent text messages to more than five-million South Africans. The voting stations will close at five PM. Some registration stations in the Eastern Cape also experienced long queues due to a high voter turnout. Our reporter in Mthatha, Zimkhita Manqinana for the latest in that area.
